What a dumb bastard.
The terrain is almost entirely flat, with no roadside protection, no hills to change the pressure and at least 100km between turns in the road. On the way up here tonight I passed through a couple of serious dust storms. The wind is savage.
I know I can do this. No matter how hard the wind blows, no matter how slow I go. I can do 400k inside 27:30. It's all a mental game. Whether it's good for the soul or just self abuse is the $64,000 question. Time to HTFU. I'm heading off at 2am.

I love the Malle Routes ride, but you're right - there's nowhere to shelter from the wind when it blows. Last year, Steve and Andy and Glo and I did about 120km in record time, before turning right into it. Man that was one slow drawn out knife fight to the finish. I hope it goes better for you tomorrow. I'm off to do 80km on the mountain bike through the wilds of Tassie's south.
All the best Peter as it is blowing a gale! Live feeds can be found at http://tinyurl.com/MR-Feed

Did the 200km last year and loved it. Windy of course but that is Spring. The mallee dust is actually just hitting Shepparton today!
